For many of us, we all remember the move from Primary to Secondary school and just how daunting it felt.
Some were filled with excitement, some with apprehension but everyone had questions about what life in a new school would be like.
In any case, beginning a new chapter in a bigger, shinier environment can seem overwhelming but we’re here to provide some tips to help with the transition to secondary school.
Take part in transition days/open days
These are a great opportunity to visit your new school, perhaps meet some of your new teachers and check out where everything is. Finding your way around can take some time so getting a head start is a bonus and it will make your first few days feel a little more familiar.
Prepare
Get anything you think will help ease your mind in advance. You will most likely need pens, pencils, notebook, calculator (and some schools will let you know in advance what to get).
Also research your new school, check out your new route to school if you can walk there and team up with friends to travel together and share the experience.
Be open to making new friends
You will meet a whole diverse range of new, exciting people in secondary school and who knows, you may even meet a new friend for life! Keep yourself open to meeting new people and treat everyone with kindness – show them how brilliant you are!
Finally, don’t panic!
Schools will do everything to help ease the transition from Primary to Secondary and if you begin to worry, you can reach out for support at any time. It may take a couple of days to settle in, but before you know it you’ll be comfortable in your new setting and learning so many new things!
