Konflux Theatre in Education is a children's theatre company touring throughout Scotland and the UK with workshop programmes and performances for young people.

Our programmes involve working interactively with groups of pupils in schools and all types of venues incorporating drama as an integral part of personal and social development. Our work inspires creative thinking and imaginations and engages young people's interest and involvement.

We believe in using drama and theatre as tools for creative learning. We link our workshops to key areas within the Curriculum for Excellence, in particular Expressive Arts and Health and Wellbeing, we also consistently promote our workshops to aid cross curricular learning.

Our Play in a day workshops aim to encapsulate the 4 key capacities of the Curriculum for Excellence to enable each child or young person to be a successful learner, a confident individual, a responsible citizen and an effective contributor.

Konflux Theatre's workshops allow learners to have rich opportunities to be creative and experience inspiration, confidence and enjoyment. The whole basis of our workshops allow children and young people to use their skills developed in the workshop to present their work to their peers, teachers and parents.

Our workshops bring together many experiences by integrating elements of social studies, literature and the expressive arts. The experiences and outcomes of our workshops are an essential component of Scotland's new curriculum enabling children and young people to experience the inspiration and power of the arts.

All our workshops give children and young people the opportunity to recognise and nurture their creative and aesthetic talents allowing them to develop skills and techniques that are relevant to specific art forms. Through this we aim to further develop young people's skills to help them encapsulate the key four capacities.

The Life & Times of Robert Burns

A Play in a Day workshop for P4 - P7 children

Robert BurnsThis brand new Robert Burns Play in a Day written especially for Primary 4- 7 will give schools a new way of celebrating the Life and Times of Robert Burns.

The workshop is not only an enjoyable and engaging experience, it is also an effective learning tool. The entire school and even parents can enjoy the 15/20 minute performance by the group at the end of the school day.

We believe that this new Play in a Day addressing the life and times of Robert Burns, Historical heritage and culture will always be important and exciting and we want to give children a fantastic creative opportunity to celebrate this for years to come.

How the Day works

After registration the group (generally up to a maximum of 30) spend 15-20 minutes learning vocal and movement exercises designed to build their confidence and encourage them to work together. Our technique is specifically designed to enable young people who may have reading difficulties to actively participate in the play. The students do not receive copies of the script as lines are given orally by the director.

Performance

The day culminates in a performance of approximately 15 minutes to the rest of the school allowing the group to share their work. Lots of our schools choose to invite the class parents too. Experiences and Outcomes...

  • Subject learning

The children in Primary 5 had a wonderful day when Stephanie came to deliver our Play in a Day about Robert Burns.
Every child was fully engaged in the learning and the performance, to the extent where some showed previously hidden voices!
The play was pitched correctly for the children's level and Stephanie was responsive to their needs and abilities. They gained knowledge about history, language and drama- truly cross curricular learning in action!
I would recommend the experience heartily,

Roz Wilson
(P5a Class teacher) Battlefield Primary School, Glasgow

It was a wonderful, exciting day which all the children felt part of. The drama coach was excellent and the end result was amazing!
